Free Screening of 2010 Oscar Winning Documentary Inside Job

The Oswego Film Group (OFG) and the SUNY Oswego Economics Department will present the winner for Documentary Feature at last month’s Academy Awards, Inside Job. The film will be shown in the SUNY Oswego Campus Center Auditorium at 7 PM on Thursday, March 31. A question and answer session and discussion will follow the screening (which is free and open to the public).

Inside Job delivers “a comprehensive analysis of the global financial crisis of 2008, which at a cost of over $20 trillion, caused millions of people to lose their jobs and homes in the worst recession since the Great Depression, and nearly resulted in a global financial collapse. Through exhaustive research and extensive interviews with key financial insiders, politicians, journalists, and academics, the film traces the rise of a rogue industry which has corrupted politics, regulation, and academia. It was made on location in the United States, Iceland, England, France, Singapore, and China.” (Sony Pictures Classics)

Inside Job’s director and co-writer Charles Ferguson’s previous documentary No End in Sight (2007) focused on the US’s involvement in Iraq. Ferguson’s diverse résumé (a PhD in political science and experience as a technology CEO, writer, and consultant) informed his skill in presenting clearly this story’s complexities. With his current feature, Ferguson has crafted a film “as gripping as any thriller.” (Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian)
