The Oswego Players Hold Auditions for ‘Blithe Spirit’

OSWEGO – The Oswego Players host open auditions for its production of “Blithe Spirit.” Auditions take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, June 25 and 26 at the Frances Marion Brown Theater on Barbara Donahue Drive in Oswego.

There are roles for two male and two female actors, as well as one female teenager. British accents are encouraged but are not mandatory. Those who would like to audition will be asked to perform a cold reading from the script.

“Blithe Spirit” is written by Noel Coward and directed by Troy Pepper. The play follows meticulous, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine who, while interviewing eccentric and flighty medium Madame Arcati for his new novel, finds himself literally haunted by his deceased first wife, Elvira, whom no one else can see. Comedy and chaos abound as Charles, his second wife, Ruth, their guests, and Elvira’s personalities clash, and more supernatural hijinks occur.

This is not the first time that The Oswego Players has produced “Blithe Spirit,” nor is it the first time Troy Pepper has directed this classic play. In 2005, “Blithe Spirit” was Troy Pepper’s directional debut. Now 20 years later, he is reviving this classic comic play.

Performances will run Fridays through Sundays, Sept. 5-7 and 12-14. Friday and Saturday shows will start at 7:30 p.m., while Sunday matinees will begin at 2 p.m.

“Blithe Spirit” is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service collection.
