HANNIBAL, NY – Ethel Pettit Ives, 101, of Sterling, passed away Tuesday July 24, 2012.
She was born in Fair Haven, a daughter to the late Vernon and Nora Baggs Pettit.
Ethel lived all her life in Sterling and graduated from Fair Haven High School.
She had worked for Comstock Foods in Red Creek and then for Sterling Co-op.
Ethel had her own roadside stand in front of her home where she sold fruits, vegetables, flowers and rabbits.
She was a member of the Sterling Historical Society and was a member of the former Fair Haven Grange.
Ethel enjoyed quilting, gardening and spending time with her friends, cats and family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Ives, who died in 1967; three brothers, Carl Pettit, Earl Pettit Sr. and Alvah Pettit; and a sister, Edith Wright.
Ethel is survived by a son, Ed (Fran) Ives; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday with services to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga St., Hannibal, with Rev. Gordon Wendell officiating.
Burial will be in Sterling Center Cemetery.
