“We are pleased to welcome back Excellus BlueCross BlueShield as a Triple Word sponsor for Scrabble Fest,” said Henderson.  “This is the third year that Excellus BlueCross BlueShield has helped sponsor this event and we are grateful that they have chosen to join us once again.”

Scheduled for September 21, the 6th Annual Diane Falise Memorial Scrabble Fest will be held at Elks Lodge #271, 132 W. Fifth St.

The event helps to raise awareness of LVOC’s efforts to increase literacy in Oswego County.  Henderson said that Scrabble Fest offers an evening of fun for both players and spectators.

“Teams of 4 will compete against each other in four 20-minute rounds.   At the end team scores will be tallied and the top three teams will be awarded prizes, there will also be a silent auction, and for some added fun we will be awarding prizes for best team uniforms, as well as for the most pledges brought in by a team or individual.  We invite community members to enter a team or just stop down to be part of the excitement of Scrabble Fest.  It’s a great way to support your community and LVOC while enjoying a fun night out with family and friends,” said Henderson.

LVOC, a program of Oswego County Opportunities (OCO), provides free, confidential services such as: Basic Literacy that includes writing and simple math skills; English Literacy to improve English speaking, reading and writing skills along with some simple math skills; and Computer Literacy that uses computer stations in the LVOC office to teach basic computer skills.

Entry fee for a team of 4 is $100 and includes light refreshments.  The cost for individuals wishing to attend but not compete in the event is $15.  All proceeds from Scrabble Fest will benefit LVOC.  For more information on register a team for 6th Annual Diane Falise Memorial LVOC Scrabble Fest, or to become an official sponsor, contact Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County at 315-342-8839 or visit www.lvoswego.org
