OSWEGO — An exchange student from Shanghai Normal University, one of SUNY Oswego’s six partner universities in China, recently attended the prestigious Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations Conference in Boston.
Jin Jin, a junior accounting major in the college’s School of Business, was chosen as one of 180 students from 40 countries to attend the Feb. 10 to 13 conference, whose theme was “Looking Back, Forging Ahead: Asia in Pursuit of a Vibrant Future.”
Jin had the opportunity to meet and interact with leaders in various industries. “They mentioned the American dream in the conference,” she said. “You have the power to be what you want to be, but you have to work hard and have the aspiration to be contributing to what you want in the future.”
Jin’s mentor, professor of business June Dong, suggested Jin apply to attend the conference. An alumna of Shanghai Normal University, Dong first met Jin in China and gave her information about SUNY Oswego.
While much of Jin’s focus is on her studies — she received a 4.0 her first semester at Oswego — she also enjoys swimming at Lee Hall and playing badminton with friends.
“Not only do you focus your attention on class, but also you can make your life more colorful and plentiful, based on the facilities the school offers,” Jin said.
Jin will return to China after this semester.
