OSWEGO – The Fulton Art Association has announced the winners of the tenth annual High School Invitational Art and Photography Show that was held at the Fulton Municipal Building March 12 and 13.
Ninety-four students from high schools in Fulton, Hannibal, Oswego, and Phoenix school districts submitted 115 pieces of artwork in 13 categories.
The show was created to help provide encouragement and guidance to high school artists and provide them a venue to display their talent and artwork.
This year’s judges were long-time FAA member Carolyn House Mosier and William DeMott; both are instructors at Fulton’s Cayuga Community College.
The award for Best of Show went to McKayla Long, a senior at Hannibal High School, for her digital photo, “Just above the Surface,” a picture of a frog poking its head out of the water in a puddle.
The Viewers’ Choice Award went to Gilly Aubeuf, a senior at G. Ray Bodley High School in Fulton for her piece in printmaking titled, “Jelly Fish.”
In the three-dimensional category, Devon Robinson (Fulton, grade 12) took first place with his wooden sculpture entitled “Cheer is Life.”
Three Honorable Mentions were given to Katie Hill (Oswego, grade 10) for “Engines Travels,” Marissa Kunzwiler (Oswego, grade 12) for “Go with the Flow” and Brianna Smith (Fulton, grade 12) for “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa Rendition.”
In the acrylics medium, Samantha Lee (Oswego, grade 12) won first place with her painting entitled “African Emerald Cuckoo.”
Second place was granted to Amanda DeRyke (Phoenix, grade 11) for Starry Night.
In the ceramics category, first place went to Devon Robinson (Fulton, grade 12) for “The Bust.” Second place was shared by Shaylee Allen (Phoenix, grade 12) for “Flawlessly Floral” and Isabella Garafolo (Phoenix, grade 10) for her pottery “Hombre.”
An honorable mention was awarded to Amber DeStevens (Fulton, grade 12) for “The Tree of Life.”
First place in computer graphic art was awarded to Madeline Phillips-Sherman (Fulton, grade 12) for “Kaitlynn-The Girl Who Traveled the Stars.”
Two honorable mentions were awarded, one to Mackenzie Bogart (CiTi BOCES/Fulton, grade 12) for “Genest” and Arialees Alicia (CiTi BOCES/Oswego, grade 12) for “Ariel, The Little Mermaid.”
First place in digital photography was granted to Bradley Deitz (Phoenix, grade 12) for “Reflections.”
Second place was shared by Brian Harrington (Hannibal, grade 12) for “Aquatic Peace” and Courtney Battist (Hannibal, grade 12) for “Katie.”
Honorable mentions were given to Renee Ball (Hannibal, grade 12) for “The Falling Blocks,” Victoria Boyce (Hannibal, grade 11) for “Bubbled Light” and McKayla Long (Hannibal, grade 12) for “Soft Pack Cigarettes.”
In “drawing A” (pencil, graphite, charcoal), first place went to Christina Midlar (Hannibal, grade 11) for her drawing, “My Hoodie.”
An honorable mention was awarded to Sydney Waloven (Hannibal, grade 12) for “All Grays.”
In “drawing B” (colored pencil, Prismacolor), first place went to Sydney Copeland (Oswego, grade 12) for “Fruit n Glass.”
Second place was shared by Katie Bradshaw (Oswego, grade 12) for “Grandma’s Side Table” and Mikayla Trepasso (Oswego, grade 11) for “Marbles and Ribbons.”
In “drawing C” (markers, pastels, pen and ink), two honorable mentions were awarded to Gabreilla Lanza (Fulton, grade 12) for “Middle Earth” and Katie O’Gorman (Oswego, grade 11) for “Jungle Cat.”
In painting mixed media, two first-place awards were given to Victoria Izyk (Fulton, grade 11) for “Year of the Dragon” and Stacey Sereno (Fulton, grade 11) for “Bleeding Roses.”
In printmaking, first place was awarded to Gilly Aubeuf (Fulton, grade 12) for “Jelly Fish,” second place to Donald Mills (Fulton, grade 12) for “Grizzly Scratch,” and an honorable mention to Nate Tsutsumaita (Oswego, grade 11) for “Warrior’s Crest.”
In watercolors, a second place was given to Emily Melucci (Hannibal, grade 9) for “Lion Head.”
Local vendors who sponsored the show were David Mirabito, Foster Funeral Home, Fulton Savings Bank, and Spencer and Anne Ludington.
All students in the four districts, including LEAH and CiTi/BOCES, are allowed to participate in the High School Invitational competition.
They are also welcome to join the Fulton Art Association and participate in its various shows, including the annual show, special exhibits, and the photography show.
