Agriculture was in the spotlight recently at Fairgrieve Elementary School, as students learned about crops, animals and nutrition during the annual fall harvest festival.
The event provided students with an opportunity to meet with local farmers and agricultural businesses for a hands-on harvest experience.
Different stations were set up inside and outside of the building, which allowed students to identify and “pick” fruits and vegetables, harvest birdseed, feed goats and explore farm equipment.
“This teaches the kids about the fall harvest and the process that happens to get the food from the farm to the table,” said Fairgrieve Principal Jean Sampsell.
She noted that students were able to see this process play out as they provided a fall harvest donation of vegetables to the local food pantry.
The festival also included storytelling, a presentation by the Fulton Fire Department and a treasure hunt.
