OSWEGO, NY – No injuries were reported in a fire today (July 24) in Oswego.
The cause of the early afternoon house fire at 80 E. Mohawk St. is under investigation by the city of Oswego Cause and Origin Team.
The fire was reported at 1:40 p.m. in the six-unit multiple-family structure with crews arriving minutes later.
Numerous people inside the building exited on their own.
One apartment suffered heavy smoke and fire damage with other apartments having smoke and water damage.
First responding units reported that there were working smoke detectors.
Also on scene was the Oswego Police Department and the Oswego County Fire Coordinator’s Office.
Occupants have been referred to the American Red Cross.
“Crews did a great job in knocking this thing down in what appears to have been an unoccupied apartment at the time,” Chief Jeff McCrobe said. ” The fact that there were working smoke detectors is very much worth noting.”
