OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Fire Department would like to remind Oswego residents that next week, October 6 – 12 is Fire Prevention Week.
The department reminds all residents of this important time of the year and that the 2013 Fire Prevention Week theme is “Prevent Kitchen Fires!”
Two of every five home fires start in the kitchen and one-third of those fires are caused by unattended cooking equipment.
This is a reminder to take an extra moment and make every attempt to avoid mistakes that may lead to home fires and in particular the reason that kitchen fires begin.
It is equally important to be sure that your home has the proper amount of working smoke detectors as well as carbon monoxide detectors, proven lifesavers in preventing household fatalities.
