OSWEGO -The cause of the fire this morning at Sherlock Industry 193 E. Seneca St. is currently under investigation by the City of Oswego Cause and Origin Team.
Fire broke out at about 7:47 a.m. today (Aug. 30) in the industrial plant where all of the 22 employees inside evacuated safely.
Fire department units arrived about 4 minutes later and reported smoke and flame visible from both inside and outside of the facility in the area of the saw dust extraction system.
Damage was contained mostly to the area in and around that system.
It took about 90 minutes to control the fire.
Because of the large area of the industrial facility, it took a while to get this under control as the byproduct of their operation, mostly sawdust and finely ground wood was what was burning throughout the system.
Working with the knowledge and cooperation of their employees to become familiar with and understanding the system helped keep damage to a minimum.
Oswego Police as well as the Oswego County Fire Coordinator’s Office were also on scene.
OFD units are still on the scene at this time.
