Firefighter Michael D. Cook Retires

The city of Oswego Fire Department announces the retirement of Firefighter Michael D. Cook effective July 12, 2014.

Firefighter Cook was an active participant in all roles of a firefighter and a member of several Oswego Fire Department specialty teams including the dive team, rapid intervention team, hazardous materials response team, as well as the cause and origin team.

He was also an accomplished pump operator as well as a skilled boat operator.

He was appointed to the Oswego Fire Department on June 1, 1982.

He was also very active in the Oswego Firefighters Benevolent Association as well as IAFF Local 126 holding numerous executive board positions throughout his career.

In 2013, he was named The Oswego Fire Department Firefighter Of The Year.

“With the retirement of Mike Cook the Oswego Fire Department not only loses 32 years of dedicated service, but an expertise of so many firefighter duties that is difficult to match. Whatever duty or responsibility he took on it was completed in a most skilled and professional manner. Some of his finest work came as a valued member of our cause and origin team not only in the work that he did as a fire investigator, but the mentoring he did with younger team members,” said Chief Jeff McCrobie. “I will miss him both personally and professionally but congratulate him on his retirement after a most successful career that will allow him to spend more time with his wife, Connie, children and grandchildren.”
