Fitzhugh Park Sixth Grade Celebration

OSWEGO, NY – The sixth graders of the Fitzhugh Park Elementary School celebrated their final days at the east side school with the annual recognition ceremony.

The Rose Izzo Writing Award was once again presented to a Fitzhugh Park Elementary School sixth grader. Crissa Cabanlig was this year’s recipient as they were joined by Rose Izzo’s  great-granddaughter and former FPS student Samantha Falcetti and Izzo family member Holly Allen.

The highlight of the afternoon came as each student received their certificate in recognition of their accomplishments.

However, there were several special awards that were also presented.

Shameeka LaLiveres received the New York State Comptroller Award.

The “Triple C Awards” signifying character, courage and commitment from the New York State Attorney General were presented to Jessica Pullen and Hermes Jimenez Jr.

Once again the Rose Izzo Writing Award was presented to an outstanding Fitzhugh Park Elementary School sixth grader.

The award, introduced several years ago by the Izzo family, is presented to an outstanding writer among the FPS sixth graders.

This year, Crissa Cabanlig was the recipient and great-granddaughter of Mrs. Izzo, Samantha Falcetti, presented the award and was joined by FPS teacher and family member Holly Allen.

The President’s Award for Academic Excellence was also presented to several students.

Receiving the “Gold” award were Liberty McCracken, Hermes Jimenez,  Crissa Cabanlig, Jessica Pullen, Shameeka LaLiveres and Alexis James.

Meanwhile, earning “Silver” awards  were Kaitlyn Birmingham, Emily Alnutt, Zachary Warren, Colton Avery, Shelby Davis, Tyler Eckert, Dominic Perrone, Derek Putman, Joseph Skillen, Randy Bills, Makayla Fragale, Madeline Gunther and Keith Loughrey.

Teacher Ed Fayette introduced the sixth graders who were welcomed by family members, friends, and teachers.

This year’s sixth graders who are now bound for Oswego Middle School included Emily Alnutt, Raylyn Avery, Barbara Babcock,  Kaitlyn Birmingham, Christopher Breedlove, Brendon Davis, Tyler Davis, Gabrielle Dickens, Nathaniel Distin, Brendan Fantom, Marissa Forger, Alexis James, Hermes Jimenez Jr., Shameeka LaLiveres, Nathaniel Murteza, Keith Pickett, Zachary Warren and Dillon Westberry.

Also moving on are Alexandria Arens, Colton Avery, Crissa Cabanlig, Shelby Davis, Micheala Dunsmoor-Sheppard, Tyler Eckert, Evyn Haskins, Harmony Kryger, Leeanna Loveall, Cassondra Monroy, Nicholas Murteza, Dominic Perrone, Jessica Pullen, Derek Putnam, Joseph Skillen, Jaime Thompson and Makayla Walker.

The others who will start seventh grade this September are Zachary Azzarelli, Devin Ball, Randy Bills, Tyler Butler, Nichole Donahue, Makayla Fragale, Madeline Gunther, Cole Hooper, Jared LaSalle, Keith Loughrey,  Emily Lyboult, Liberty McCracken, Briana McHenry, Noah Murteza, Hannah Rowley, Haley Shelton, Breeann Smith and Emily Stone.
