Forgotten Woman of the Civil War Recalled

HANNIBAL – On October 24 at 7 p.m. at the Community Center, Hannibal town and village historian Lowell Newvine and his wife, Carol, will present a program on “The Forgotten Woman of the Civil War.”

The Hannibal Community Center is located on Oswego Street.

In the 1864 painting by Francis Bicknell Carpenter entitled, “The First Reading of the Emancipation Proclamation,” Lincoln’s Cabinet is shown.

In the painting, there is one empty chair.

The Newvines will speculate as to who may have been entitled to fill the vacant chair.

Refreshments will be served.
