Peter Franco has announced his bid for re-election as Councilman of Fulton’s Third Ward. He is a Democrat and has been endorsed by the Fulton Democratic Committee.
Peter is currently serving out his first two year term on the City Council. He is a retired Deputy Chief of Police from the Fulton Police Department and currently is the Supervisor of Security at the Federal Building in Syracuse, NY. Franco also worked for 4 years in the real estate business. “Working in real estate opened my eyes to the difference in the tax rates from one community to another. Our greatest challenge is to find a way to keep servicing the residents of the City of Fulton without raising taxes.”
Franco said that his first two years in office have been gratifying. “While in office, I found that working on budget issues, absentee landlords, and no tax increases are not the only challenges that concern our citizens. I see that the everyday quality of life issues such as a fox family ruling the neighborhood, repairing catch basins, paving streets, plowing snow, putting in a street light, a noisy race car, getting neighbors to mow their yards and even taking care of a hornet problem mean so much to those affected.” He continued that “helping people with their everyday problems is the most rewarding aspect of the office.
Franco said that he would continue to support the Mayor’s initiative to rehabilitate tax foreclosed properties. These properties are then offered for resale and placed back on the tax rolls. He also supports New York State’s Brownfield Initiative. Franco said that one of the greatest achievements of which he was a part was working with the council and the Mayor to secure the improbable agreement with Oswego Health on the sale of the Lee Memorial property.
Franco will continue to push for the City to tackle the problems of vandalism, deteriorating properties and deteriorating infrastructure, code enforcement, high tax rate, absentee landlords and nuisance properties in an aggressive manner. Franco knows that the City has been moving ahead in a positive and productive manner and he wants to help move the process along with new and fresh ideas.
Peter will continue to hold the neighborhood meetings. ‘I believe that the third ward monthly meetings have been a valuable tool and I think that new ideas to help move the city forward come from these meetings. The meetings are a great way to keep in touch with each other and to bring political and community leaders face to face with us.” If third ward residents want to be a part of the meetings but cannot attend, Peter would be happy to email minutes of the meeting to you if you furnish your email address to him at [email protected]
Franco was born and raised in Fulton and has resided at 852 Forest Ave with his wife, Terri for over 18 years. They have been married for nearly twenty five years. They have two children, Jamie and Peter, both of whom graduated from Fulton Schools and from Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tn. Currently Franco serves as the Vice President of the Fulton Family YMCA Board of Directors; he is a retired member of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police and is a member Friends of History in Fulton NY.
Peter believes that with the support of the third ward residents, we can move the City forward in a positive manner. “I ask for your support in this year’s election so that we can boldly move ahead with the improvement of our ward and our City” Franco said.
