Frank E. Sayer, Jr., 91, resident of 31 Varrick St. Oswego, passed away February 14, 2010 at his home.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Frank Sr. and Cynthia (Morse) Sayer.

Mr. Sayer was a graduate of Oswego High School and Colgate University class of 1941.

He was a US Army Veteran of World War II.

He owned and operated E. Sayer and Son, a family grocery business in Oswego, which was started by his grandfather, Edward Sayer in 1873.

Mr. Sayer was a life long resident of Oswego, he served proudly as a Rotarian for over 63 years where he was awarded the Paul Harris Medal. He also served as Oswego City Chamberlain.

Frank was a member of the Port of Oswego Authority, Historical Society, Heritage Foundation, Oswego County Planning Board, Riverside Cemetery Board, and other civic minded organizations.

He had a life long interest in the history of Oswego.. He attended the West Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Ruth (Richards) Sayer; three sons, Richard “Perk” Sayer of Hannibal; Frank E. Sayer III of Oswego; Steven (Nancy) Sayer of St. Davids, PA; one daughter, Susan C. (Jeff Crewe) Sayer of Mystic, Conn; his eight grandchildren, Leane (Scott) Sayer Somers, Janis L. Sayer and their mother Vivian Sayer, Ryan P. (Christina) Sayer, Lindsey R. Sayer, Elizabeth M. Sayer, Scott J. Sayer, Katherine A. Sayer and Daniel M. Sayer-Crewe; and great-grandchildren, Austin Somers, Preston and Reagan Sayer.

Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the West Baptist Church. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Tuesday at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St. Oswego.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Baptist Church, 39 W. Mohawk St. or Restoration of Page Memorial Chapel of Riverside Cemetery, 4024 Co Rt. 57 Oswego.


  1. Dear Ruth, We are sorry to tread about the passing of Frank. I always considered him one of my best friends as I have known the family for almost 89 years. We hope to be home from Florida in the Spring so we can attend the service at Riverside. God bless you, Jim and Esther
