Frank Wheeler Jr., 90, of Oswego, was promoted to glory on Thursday, April 7, 2011, at St. Luke Health Services.
He was born on July 9th, 1920, in Bulger, Pennsylvania. He was the first of 9 children born to the late Frank and Fanny (Hill) Wheeler Sr.
He was politically active in the community of Wilkinsburgh, PA. Throughout his early years, he formed an organization known as the Wilkinsburgh Forum and Civic Association, in which residents come together to discuss preventative measures and keeping a safe community.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a foreman with the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co, in Creighton, PA.
Years later, he became an active member of the Salvation Army in Oswego, NY, serving for many years, and became affectionately known as “The Sarge”, because he had been appointed Corps Sergeant Major.
He was a veteran of the US Army.
He leaves behind his wife Lucille (Wright) Wheeler of Oswego; 2 brothers, Fredrick Wheeler and Leroy Wheeler; 5 children, Rose Hart, George Wheeler, Deborah McMorris, Robert Wheeler, and Toya Wheeler; 4 grandchildren, Michelle Smith, Leilani McMorris, Crystal Wheeler, and George Wheeler III, and 2 great-grandchildren, Tyreke Smith, and Malik Smith and a host of nieces and nephews.
As a husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend, he will be greatly missed. But we know he will receive the best part of his life with his Savior Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00pm Saturday, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Mexico Village Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 2:00 to 4:00pm Saturday, prior to the service, at the funeral home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.
