Fulton, NY – The familiar sounds of some of the greatest songs of all time will fill the air, as the Fulton Community Theater takes to the stage with its latest production in the popular Evening on Broadway series, “The Golden Age of Broadway: The Music of Porter, Kern, Gershwin, Cohan, Berlin and Rodgers & Hart”
Under the direction of Kathy DeGolyer “The Golden Age of Broadway” will be performed June 21, 22, 23 and June 28, 29, 30 in Jubilee Hall at Holy Trinity Parish, 309 Buffalo St.
“We have chosen a selection of songs that are as popular today as they were when they debuted during the golden age of Broadway. Songs from iconic composers such as Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George M. Cohan, Harold Arlen and others will resonate with music lovers of all ages. Harold Arlen’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” is as beloved by today’s youth as much as it was by those who first heard it more than 70 years ago when it debuted in the Wizard of Oz. George and Ira Gershwin’s “Summertime” continues to be a favorite of female vocalists of all ages including several recent American Idol contestants,” said DeGolyer.
Currently in rehearsal, the production will showcase talents of accompanist and musical director, Abel Searor and some of the area’s most talented vocalists. “The Evening on Broadway series provides young performers, as well as seasoned veterans, with the chance to “strut their stuff” and entertain the audience as they sing some great music,” added DeGolyer.
Fulton Community Theatre’s “The Golden Age of Broadway: The Music of Porter, Kern, Gershwin, Cohan, Berlin and Rodgers & Hart” will not only entertain, it will also benefit the food pantry at Catholic Charities of Oswego County.
“We encourage those attending our performances to please bring a donation of non-perishable food items. The food we collect will be donated to Catholic Charities food pantry. Additionally, we will hold a drawing for a chance to win a dinner and a movie package,” DeGolyer said.
“We are pleased to count Fulton Community Theatre among our ardent supporters,” said Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Oswego County, Mary-Margaret Pezzella-Pekow. “Fulton Community Theater has done much to support our efforts over the years and we are happy that they have chose to do so again. With the increased demand on our food pantry, the donations we receive will be welcomed as we help provide food for those that are hungry in our community. I hope that everyone takes the opportunity to enjoy an evening of splendid music and help those less fortunate in our community.”
