Fulton Festival of the Arts Under Way

FULTON – CNY Arts Center announces its fifth annual Arts Fest will expand this year to a weekend long event delivering multiple art experiences around Fulton, in collaboration with Jazz Fest, August 12-14.

The arts festival will include outdoor painting, art vendors all under one roof, and a Fun Walk around the city bridges along with theatre performances and Jazz Fest at night.

The weekend begins with artists registering for the Plein Air Paint Out. Plein Air means outdoor painting and artists who participate will receive a festival program with a map of the county and ideal locations to paint along with places to eat, a schedule of weekend events, evening entertainment and more.

The theme of the paint out will celebrate Oswego County’s 200th anniversary and historic landmarks but artists are free to paint whatever inspires them.

Artists will spend the weekend painting and enjoying festival events and return on Sunday with completed paintings for a reception and auction to be held on Sunday evening.

Saturday art events take place at the Fulton Community Center Ice Rink where more than 50 arts and crafts vendors will show and sell their handmade art.

Visitors who visit each booth and submit a completed “Artist Passport” will be entered to win a weekend stay at Chase Lake Lodge located in the Adirondacks, courtesy of McClellan Paint Company.

The Tale of Two Bridges Fun Walk will take off from the ice rink Saturday at 10 a.m.

Individuals and teams of walkers who raise pledges will compete for prizes as they walk from the War Memorial to downtown, around both bridges and back to the Community Center Ice Rink.

Prizes will be awarded for the Largest Community Group, Most Funds Raised (individual and group), Best Team Spirit and Most Artistic/ Creative (individual and group).

Fun is the theme for this event and prizes will be awarded at 1 p.m.

Food will be available for early shoppers until 3 p.m.

Home Depot will provide a children’s woodworking station from 3-5 p.m. for families to enjoy a woodworking project.

At 4 p.m., Jazz Fest reopens with food and festivities that last into the night.

Evening events Friday and Saturday include both Jazz Fest right behind the War Memorial and the premiere of Pollyanna, a musical onstage at the Arts Center located at 11 River Glen Drive on the Cayuga College Fulton Campus.

Pollyanna runs at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday with a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m.

“We’re celebrating our fifth anniversary in a big way by bringing these art events together in one weekend,” said executive director Nancy Fox. “We are pooling our efforts and our volunteers into one unforgettable weekend and we hope the community will save the date and come out to support the arts. With art activities from music to stage performances to local, handmade original arts and crafts, to the simple fun of walking the bridges, Fulton is the place to be that weekend.”

Artists and crafters interested in either the Plein Air or a vendor booth, and teams or individuals interested in the Fun Walk can find more information and registration forms at www.CNYArtsCenter.com or call 315-598-ARTS (2787).

Many volunteers will be needed and those who would like to help can call or email [email protected]
