Fulton Junior High School Musical: “Dear Edwina, Junior”

Need some advice? Perhaps you should try asking Edwina Spoonapple for some. Dear Edwina, Junior follows the adventures of advice-giver extraordinaire, Edwina Spoonapple. She is the creator and star of “The Dear Edwina Show”. In Paw Paw, Michigan Edwina directs the neighborhood kids to produce her weekly episode. People from all over send letters to Edwina in hopes of getting her expert, invaluable advice.

During the this week’s episode, a talent scout from the Kalamazoo Advice-A-Palooza Festival is coming to watch since the scout is looking to fill a spot vacated by Dr. Joyce Brothers. Those who write to Edwina are convinced that she can answer any problem given to her. The problem is delivered in song and is addressed in song as well. For example, “Aphrodite” explains that her brother is a picky eater and asks for Edwina’s advice. In “Say No Thank You” Edwina enlists Susie and the Napkins to explain that it’s what you say that makes one polite, not what you eat.

The show has a cast and crew of about 45 seventh and eighth graders from the Fulton Junior High School. All cast members are involved in the songs and dances in the show. Dear Edwina, Junior is directed by Carol Dexter, a retired math teacher from the Junior High. Cathy Chirello, a music teacher at the school, is the music consultant.

Kyla Freeman, an eighth grade, is Edwina. Other cast members include Sabrena Beckwith as Vladimir, Mattie Burdick as Chef Ludmilla, Emily Aubin as Fairy Forkmother, Emily Hein as Farmer Jerry, Stephen Heywood as Scott, and Erica Pawlewicz as Mary Sue Betty Bob.

Dear Edwina, Junior is a cleverly written show that uses lots of humor, in both dialogue and song, to get Edwina’s advice across to her audience.

Dear Edwina Junior will be performed at the Fulton Junior School , 129 Curtis Street, Fulton, on Friday, March 26 at 7:00 PM and on Saturday, March 27, at 2 PM. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Dear Edwina, Junior is presented through special arrangements with Musical Theatre International.
