Firefighters and Police Rescue One Person at East 4th Street Fire

OSWEGO – On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 6:15 pm, Oswego Firefighters were alerted by Oswego County 911 to a report of a structure fire at 56 East 4th Street, about a block from fire department headquarters. Oswego Firefighters and Oswego Police Officers arrived in less than 2 minutes, with command reporting a working fire in the rear of the 2 ½ story home. Firefighters began to search the structure, quickly locating an adult female, and with the assistance of an Oswego Police Officer, pulled her from the fire and to safety. A crew from Menter Ambulance then took over patient care and transported the occupant to Oswego Hospital for evaluation. Firefighters quickly continued the primary search of the large structure, while others pulled hose lines to the second floor of the home, extinguishing the fire in a matter of minutes. It took Firefighters about 30 minutes to continue overhaul and removing smoke from the residence. No other injuries were reported, and fire crews were back in service after about an hour. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Oswego Firefighters were assisted by the Oswego Police Department, Oswego Codes Department, Oswego DPW, Fulton Fire Department, Novelis Fire Department, the Oswego County Fire Coordinators Office, National Grid, and Menter Ambulance. Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone said, “The duty officer was out the door quickly, arriving at the fire scene prior to the engine or ladder truck. He quickly recognized an occupant was inside the house on the first floor and pulled her to safety with the assistance of an Oswego Police Officer. Their quick actions made the difference.” Oswego Mayor Robert Corradino said, “Great teamwork and extraordinary efforts by our Firefighters and Police Officers made for a positive outcome tonight. Simply excellent work by all our departments that assisted at the scene.”
