FULTON, NY – On September 3, at approximately 8:28 p.m., Fulton Police were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident near the intersection of State Route 3 and State Route 481 in the city of Fulton.
Through the investigation it was found that two vehicles were involved in the accident and the suspect vehicle had left the scene.
An occupant of the vehicle that did not leave the scene suffered a neck injury and was transported by ambulance to a hospital.
The suspect vehicle and its driver were located a short time later.
The driver was found to be intoxicated and it was discovered that there had been a child under the age of 16 in the vehicle at the time of the accident, police said.
The driver, Heather M. Smith, 46, of West Fourth Street, Fulton, was arrested and charged with:
Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated With a Child – E Felony
Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated BAC Greater Than .18% – Misdemeanor
Driving While Intoxicated – Misdemeanor
Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd Degree – Misdemeanor
Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Motor Vehicle Accident – Misdemeanor
Endangering the Welfare of a Child – A Misdemeanor
Smith was arraigned in Fulton City Court by Judge Hawhorne and was remanded to the Oswego County Public Safety Center.
