FULTON, NY – Julia Ludington, daughter of Judge Spencer and Ann Ludington, of Fulton, was awarded the Sandy and Sylvia Squires Scholarship this year.
Julia was unable to attend the award ceremony because she is on an educational trip in Europe.
Her mother accepted the award on her behalf.
Julia was the salutatorian of this year’s senior class and active in sports programs.
The presentation was made by Rotarian and Scholarship committee member William Rasbeck.
Julia will attend Villanova College in September and major in English Communications and Business.
During her senior year in high school, Julia wrote a weekly column for the Valley Newa.
The Squires Scholarship has a four-year value of $2,000.
It is one of several scholarships offered by the Fulton Noon Rotary Club to high school and Cayuga Community College students.
Most of the scholarships are based on need.
The Squires Scholarship is awarded to high achieving student athletes.
Chris Ells, Fulton Athletic Director, spoke for two other recipients of the Squires Scholarship.
Mary West has completed her first year at RIT at 3.8 average. She has a 4.0 in bio chem and physics.
She is running track and was chosen to develop her own research relating to cancer for credit and is aiming for grad school.
Sarah Nelson is a senior.
She is at Ithaca college.
This summer she is in Rochester doing clinicals relating to therapy for stroke, joint replacement and other bone diseases.
She is has done special work relating to thoracic needs in a swimmer.
She herself is on the swim team and they took states this year.
