FULTON, NY – (By Dave Medler) – In a change from years past when the Modifieds would just run timed hot laps on Friday night’s portion of the Outlaw 200 weekend, this year to add excitement, teams signing in the pits will be running four 15-lap Outlaw qualifiers making it all-out racing that the fans come to see.
How will these races work on October 4? These qualifiers are not mandatory to attempt to qualify for Saturday. There will be a separate draw for those events. In order to draw however, all drivers must be registered for the Outlaw 200.
The winner of each Qualifier will lock themselves into Saturday’s Outlaw 200, with spots 17-20 reserved for those winners. A driver may better his/her starting spot through Saturday’s heats.
Saturday’s format will remain unchanged, with a draw to set the heat line-ups. Heats and consolations will set the field for Saturday evening’s 200.
Another important change for Modified teams to take note of, there is no longer a multiple entry format. Drivers enter this year, not the car. Thus a driver may draw just once and run just one heat race.
There have been questions on weight rules. Weight rules are set with big blocks at 2,500 pounds, Small blocks 361 c.i. and under – 2,400 pounds and crate engines at no weight limit.
The Modifieds having all-out racing Friday night, are not the only divisions hitting the Fulton “High Banks.” The Industrial Tire Of CNY Sportsman Shootout will have their exciting heats and consolations setting most of the starting field for Saturday’s high paying 50 lap event. The NAPA Late Model Outlaw Weekend 25, Nationwide Insurance Empire Series 25, Outlaw Weekend Mod Lite Championship and Outlaw Weekend Four-Cylinder Open will make for a fun night of racing.
Before the night’s scheduled racing at 7 p.m. there will be the holdover August 30 Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modified and Four-Cylinder Stock Features from Brewerton Speedway.
