Fulton Teachers Collaborate at Monthly Benchmark Meetings

Fifth grade teachers in the Fulton City School District discuss close reading strategies and the impact on students with Director of Literacy Carri Waloven, kneeling. Regular grade level meetings in the District give grade level colleagues an opportunity to collectively share best practices, strengths and areas of weakness as well as discuss the implementation of the new Common Core Learning Standards. Additionally, teachers review benchmarks across the grade level to ensure the target curriculum is presented in each classroom at relatively the same rate and pace. The recent March meeting focused on discussions about the English Language Arts curriculum from Expeditionary Learning and preparations for the upcoming NYS assessments in mid-April.
