On March 17, Deputy Justin Leszczynski investigated a complaint from a woman in the town of Sterling who had hired Boyle to care for her husband who is completely physically disabled as a result of a stroke and requires around the clock monitoring and home care.

While the woman left to attend to some errands, Boyle decided she no longer wished to care for the gentleman leaving him unattended until family arrived several hours later to find him alone and a note from Boyle.

Boyle was arrested at the Cayuga County Public Safety Building on March 23 and issued an appearance ticket for Town of Sterling Court on April 19 at 7 p.m.
