The women’s Self-Defense course is a 5 week program designed to teach women how to perform basic yet effective self-defense techniques for a variety of life-threatening situations. This curriculum is based upon martial arts strategies intended for a smaller and weaker person to neutralize a larger and stronger opponent. This class will discuss safety and prevention tips that will increase awareness to help prevent and defend attacks. Each class builds on the next allowing a progressive system that makes retaining the information much more useful and effective. This is a hands-on training program that will mimic real-life situations. Workout clothes and long-sleeve shirts and pants are suggested due to the nature of these activities.
The Instructor is Shawn Sawyer. Shawn is a graduate from Oswego State University and holds the martial arts ranks of Black Belt in American Jiu-Jitsu, Menkyo Shoden in Gendia Goshin Ryu Jujutsu Menkyo and Shidoion (Teaching certificate) in Senshin ryu Jujutsu and 3rd Dan in American Jiu-jitsu Federation

This class will be taught using realistic scenarios. Our instructors are trained to use real-life scenarios of violence and potential violence by playing the role of perpetrators so that you are prepared to counter an actual assault. So the likelihood of leaving with a bruise or two is possible.
Training is tailored to each individual. While our techniques utilize the strengths in most students’ bodies, they can be learned by virtually anyone regardless of age or physical ability. Class size is limited to provide a maximum level of individual instruction.
