Geneseo tops Oswego State women’s basketball

Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s basketball team fell to Geneseo 69-50 on Saturday night in Max Ziel Gymnasium. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 6-9 on the year and 2-6 in conference play.

Oswego never held a lead in the game as Geneseo jumped out to an early 8-0 advantage. It was over four minutes into the game when Heather Hebert got the Lakers on the board at 15:43. Hebert would go on to score seven points in a row as Oswego would cut the margin to one, 8-7. The Lakers would not get any closer and went into the locker room trailing by 14, 30-16.

In the second-half the Knights quickly extended their lead to 20, 36-16. Alison Nunziato would bring the Lakers within 15 when she hit a three-pointer with just over 15 minutes remaining in the game. Jenn Robbins went on to score the final eight points of the game for Oswego.

The Lakers cut the margin to 10 but Geneseo went on a 9-0 run to close out the second half.

Robbins finished with a team-high 17 points shooting 6-15 from the field. On the glass Haley Witchella pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Lakers. As a team Oswego shot 33.3% and grabbed 33 rebounds.

The Lakers return to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when they travel to New Paltz for a conference matchup.
