Geoffrey Birtle, 56, of Oswego, passed away Tuesday at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Utica, he had lived in the Oswego area for more than half of his life. Geof retired from Ironworkers Local #60 and most recently worked for Central Transport as a truck driver. Geof had graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and was a chef and caterer for many years. He was happiest putting on beef roast parties, enjoyed downhill skiing, and loved cruising the Old Forge chain of lakes in his antique Century boat. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Gwendolin Birtle and his eldest brother, Roger.
Geof is survived by his wife, Julie; a son, Benjamin of VA; a stepson, David (Jackie) Reed of MO; a stepdaughter, Christine (Frank) Manchester of Fulton; a brother, Kenneth (Jan) Birtle of Dexter; a sister-in-law, Margaret (James) VanDelinder of Old Forge; four grandchildren; a niece and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Monday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton. A graveside service in Old Forge will be held at a later date.
