George T. ‘Bunzy’ LeRoy, 76

OSWEGO, NY – George T. “Bunzy” LeRoy, 76, a resident of 258 W. Fifth St., passed away on Saturday June 5, 2010, at the Pontiac Care and Rehab Center.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late George and Jesse (Day) LeRoy and had attended Oswego schools.

He was employed with Alcan for more than 20 years.

Mr. LeRoy was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Korean Conflict.

Bunzy was a member of Elks Lodge #271 and American Legion Post #268.

He enjoyed reading, camping and spending time with his three grandchildren, Michael LeRoy II, Sydnie LeRoy and Madison LeRoy.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former M. Diane Sanford; two sons, Tim (Kim) LeRoy of Oswego and G. Michael LeRoy of Washington DC; four sisters, Mary Ann Ross, Jesse Carney, Shirley Winterhald and Norma Fairly all of Oswego; nieces and nephews; and his dog, Hoffman.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5575 Thompson Road, Syracuse NY 13214-1693 or the American Diabetes Association, 6390 Fly Road, Second Floor, East Syracuse NY 13057.

  1. Diane,Timmy,George,and family, My sincere condolences go out to all of you. I have a lot of fond memories of “Bunzy” going all the way back to our St. John’s school days. Every time I saw him he always had that warm smile and something nice to say! It was a great quality he had. He sure did leave his mark. Take Care and God Bless. Michael P. Hogan

  2. I was honored to have been there to be there to lay him to rest. Over 24 years of knowing him, im cant say anything bad about him. Bunzy ill miss you, and your patriotism for us soldiers will always be felt….even when your gone.
