George William ‘Bill’ Ayers Sr., 76

OSWEGO, NY – George William “Bill” Ayers Sr., 76, a resident of Oswego, passed away Thursday June 5, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of the late Hettie (Jenks) Ayers.

Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1956-1960.

Bill worked for more than 20 years as an assistant plant operator for the city of Oswego.

He previously worked at Hammermill Paper Co. and for the Local 214, city of Oswego.

He was a member of the Oswego Elks and a lifetime member of B.P.O.E. 271.

He volunteered at the Human Concerns Center and at St. Joseph’s Bingo.

Bill was an avid golfer.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Murabito) Ayers; two sons, G. William Ayers Jr. of Fulton, NY, and Gregory Ayers of Eagle, Colo.; one brother, Peter Slotterback of North Carolina; two sisters, Lydia Del Corpo of New Jersey and Jeanne Adams of Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Danielle Ayers, Brendon Ayers and Samuel Ayers; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his nephew, Brian Del Corpo.

Donations may be made to the Human Concerns Center Inc., 85 E. Fourth St., Oswego, NY 13126.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at St. Joseph’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

  1. My heartfelt sympathy go to Barb and the boys. I worked with Bill and listened to his jokes to make selling tickets at the Elks Bingo go by faster. Bill will certainly be missed by many. Thoughts, prayers and love to you all.
