OSWEGO, NY – Mrs. Geraldine “Gerrie” L. (Sheridan) Smith, 84, of Oswego, passed away on Tuesday December 8, 2015, at Oswego Hospital, with her loving family by her side.
Gerrie was born in Oswego, on November 1, 1931, a daughter of the late Alfred and Florence (Robinson) Sheridan.
She was raised and educated in Oswego.
On September 17, 1949, she was united in marriage with Wayne “Smitty” A. Smith; Mr. Smith died on June 15, 2013, after more than 63 years of marriage.
From this union came a very special, cherished and devoted daughter.
A wonderful mother and grandmother, Gerrie had a genuine love for her family, who always came first; she was happiest when her family was all together and she could cook her delicious meals.
Her favorite past time was crafting.
Gerrie’s warmth, kindness, and genuine love touched many people and will forever be in her crafts and our hearts.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her dedicated daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and John Connolly of Oswego; cherished grandchildren, Jason and Heidi Connolly of Oswego, Kristie Connolly of Syracuse and Steven and Janna Connolly of Baldwinsville; precious great-grandchildren, Olivia “Livi” Drake-Connolly, Blake Connolly, Brylea Connolly, Joselyn “Josie” Soper, AJ Cardinale and Sophia Cardinale; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred “Ockie” and Beverly Sheridan of Michigan and Harold and Shirley West of Oswego.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, especially acknowledging, Kathy (Sheridan) Bradwisch, Hazel Schultz and Joe Smith, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and a brother-in-law, Marvin Bailey of Oswego.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jackie Sheer and Irene Bailey; and a brother, Robert Sheridan.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gerrie’s memorial service and celebration of life on Sunday, December 20, at 12:30 p.m. at the Scriba Volunteer Fire Department, 5618 Route 104, Oswego.
Visitation will take place at the fire department from 11:30 a.m. until the service commences.
Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Adrean Funeral Service, Inc., Utica, NY.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Michaud Residential Health Services, in Fulton, NY, especially acknowledging the evening staff for their care and compassion offered to Gerrie during her stay there; it will long be remembered by Gerrie’s family.
