Fulton, NY – The Elm Roads Service Unit of the Girl Scouts Council of Central New York held their annual Sock Hop in the CYO gym at Catholic Charities of Oswego County. The Sock Hop, which brings together Girl Scouts from troops in the greater Liverpool area, provided the Scouts with an afternoon of dancing, music, and games. To show their appreciation to Catholic Charities for hosting the event the Elm Roads Service Unit helped make the Sock Hop an opportunity for the Girl Scouts to help the support Catholic Charities annual ‘Let’s Give For A Kid’ program.
“Each year our ‘Let’s Give For A Kid†program provides children in need in our community with gifts at Christmas. In addition to toys and games the program also provides warm clothing, hats and mittens as gifts. To help support our efforts, the Scout Leaders suggested that part of the scouts’ admission to the Sock Hop would be a donation of warm, winter clothing. The girls thought it was a great idea and were happy to know that they would be helping other children in the community,†explained Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Oswego County, Mary-Margaret Pezzella-Pekow.
Catholic Charities will be distributing gifts to those who have signed up for the ‘Let’s Give For A Kid’ program December 15th through the 17th. Donations for the program will be accepted through Friday, December 11th.
