The 30th Annual Memorial Day Salute, May 27th and 28th, held at the Fulton Community Center on West Broadway, will feature a regional favorite, Doctor Boogie. This popular band will perform on Friday night, May 27th at 7 PM.
On Saturday night, May 28th, nationally acclaimed American pop-rock band, Orleans, sponsored by Fulton Savings Bank, will take the stage at 8 PM.
There will be an array of local talent including parade bands, G Ray Bodley High School Jazz Band, Fulton Community Band, the Magic of Virgil, the music of Rick Bush & the acoustic trio L.A.Rising, comprised of Jeff Bargelski, Marty Sweeney and Vinnie Markowsky.
The G Ray Bodley High School Jazz Band will open on Friday evening, May 27th at 5 PM. The Jazz Band, directed by high school band director, Terry Caviness, is made up of high school students. The Jazz Band has won prizes in regional and national competition and performs music from the Swing, BeBop and Big Band eras.
Rick Bush will present his vocal stylings at 6 PM. Exploding onto the stage at 7 PM will be Doctor Boogie with their unique blend of amped up rock covers and catchy originals.
At 10 PM., a gigantic fireworks display by Pyrotecnico and sponsored by National Grid will conclude the evening’s activities.
On Saturday, May 28th, immediately following the 10 AM parade, sponsored by Pathfinder Bank, several parade bands will perform on stage in the Community Center. At 2 PM, the Off-Broadway dancers will entertain. At 3:30 PM , the Magic of Virgil will amaze young and old alike. Virgil has developed a dazzling, larger than life show, blending the most engaging aspects of audience participation with the spectacle and high drama of stage illusions. Throughout the day, Hayley Starr will be painting faces and twisting balloon animals.
The Fulton Community Band will take the stage at at 5:00 PM. The Band, directed by Carol Fox, features musicians from throughout Central New York and is active all year, performing at many local functions including the Pavilion Summer Series of Concerts.
At 6 PM, L.A. Rising will entertain and at 8 PM Orleans will be featured. It is sure to be a very nostalgic, musical event.
This year’s Memorial Day Salute theme “Proud To Be An American” will celebrate pride and patriotism in support of our servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom then and now. John McGraw, Veteran of the Year, will serve as the Grand Marshall of the parade.
The event opens on Friday, May 27th at 5 PM and will include fireworks on Friday night, the Saturday morning parade on May 28th, great food and drinks, rides for the children and wonderful entertainment for all to enjoy, All entertainment is offered free to the public. The event is sponsored by the local service clubs; Rotary, Sunrise Rotary, Lions Club and Kiwanis along with the Veterans’ Council.
