Growing The ‘Shop Local’ Movement At Greenspace Home & Garden

Oswego’s locally owned Greenspace Home & Garden is on a mission to offer goods made or grown in New York State by family-owned farms and local artisans.  Soon after opening, Greenspace Home & Garden gained a reputation for carrying uncommon and high-quality items.

“We’ve had several customers tell us that our store looks like it belongs in Nantucket or in NYC. But we couldn’t be happier being a part of what makes Oswego so unique,” owner Erica Holman stated.

Holman said that she “wanted to offer high-quality and unusual goods that previously could only be found in large cities yet maintain our community store appeal.”

During the store’s grand opening she realized how much her customers loved buying local products after quickly selling out of NYS Pickles, Garden Salsa and Dilled Beans.

Now Holman is happy to offer an expanded selection of locally sourced edibles, skin care, candles, plants, vintage finds and hand-crafted goods by area artisans.

“People enjoy giving gifts that are representative of our community and when you buy local more money stays in our community,” Holman said.

Additionally the store currently carries Christmas decorations, organic chocolates, Rifle Paper Goods calendars, fine stationary and cards just in time for the gift-giving season.

Holman advocates that residents shop locally-owned businesses first before driving to a big box store or mall.

“There is so much to be discovered in Oswego.  I think even long-time residents will be surprised at the variety of stores and restaurants we now have downtown if they haven’t explored the city recently,” she said.

Greenspace Home & Garden is located at 48 W. Bridge St. and is open Tuesday – Saturday from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
