Jean M. Gulliver has announced that she will be seeking re-election for the position of Palermo Town Clerk, a position she has held for 16 years.
Gulliver has been a resident of the town for 34 years when she married her husband, Gary Gulliver, who is a lifelong resident of the Town of Palermo.
For 16 years Gulliver has been the Town Clerk and for the past 6 years she has been the Tax Collector, when the Town Board dissolved the position of tax collector and made it a part of the town clerk’s job.
Gulliver has attended schooling, workshops, conferences and clerk meetings every year since she has been a clerk. “There is a lot more to the job than people realize”, said Gulliver.
“Laws change all the time and you have to be versed in State, Federal and Local Laws as well”, Gulliver said, “It’s more than just signing a dog license or writing minutes to a meeting. You even have to attend schooling with the Department of Environmental Conservation before you can issue a sportsman’s license for the first time and then every 3 years you need to attend a refresher course.”
Gulliver has in the past secured grants to build a records room and to supply the town hall with needed furniture and equipment.
“Working with the residents of town and helping them in the smallest way has been a privilege that I hope to continue”, said Gulliver.
Primary Day is set for September 13th. Polls open at noon and close at 9pm.
