Half-Shire Historical News: May 18, 2012

On Saturday May 12 we had our annual fair planning meeting at our Richland facility.

A small number attended and went over the plans for the 2012 Oswego County Fair that runs June 30-July 4. A full lunch was served, and soups were available through the day for an open house, as well as an evening concert.

Our last Arts Council sponsored concert was “Still Kickin” the Camden area band composed of members of the Trudell family.

More than 50 people enjoyed a night of dancing and good fun.  Erma Schroeder had a fine array of snacks and good foods on hand, and was assisted by Doreen Tilton in the “baking department.”

Margaret Kastler and Sharon Turo helped cleanup and Chuck and Carson Balcom served refreshments at the far end.   Despite the great entertainment and dim lights a persistent few still worked at research throughout the night.   We had the copier running pretty much through the night.

During the 12th and 13th we conducted a work detail that saw more landscaping done outside, and cleaning upstairs inside. A great deal has been accomplished in the past few months and visitors will see the clear difference.

Our next lunch meeting will be Saturday June 16 at Richland.

Soon we will also be starting to clean the Heritage hall at the Oswego County Fairgrounds in Sandy Creek.   This year’s theme is “happy Birthday America” and in our building we will be working to educate on the War of 1812 and the Civil War periods.

Our facility is open Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. -3 p.m.

We continue to also meet out of town visitors by appointment at other times.

Our  phone  is 298-2986 and we have wireless internet service in the building that really makes research so much easier!
