The latest newsletter went out a couple weeks back and we are pleased with the number of membership renewals.
Announcement was made in the newsletter of the new brick walkway campaign to benefit the roof project.
Memorial bricks are available for $50 donation that can be inscribed with the names and a message regarding a loved one or ancestor.
A more detailed mailing will go out in early April with larger size bricks also available.
Trustees Phil Rombach and Erma Schroeder are heading up the effort and will select the brick color when the weather clears.
The first brick placements will likely not occur until mid-summer.
On March 9, we received a generous donation from Kimberly Southwell in memory of her late husband, Jon (1975-2012).
Jon grew up two doors down from our headquarters building in Richland and Kim has organized an effort to rehabilitate the NW rooms on the first floor in Jon’s memory.
The rooms will house our ground floor research collection that currently is located in the main room, ten steel shelving units of five shelves will hold the collection of family notebooks, and miscellanous records from the 12-town region and beyond.
Additional shelving for storage, supplies and artifacts will be housed in this space, along with a work station and desk.
Demolition occurred March 1 and 2 and we await final measurements on the new flooring before we re-stud and rock the walls.
Jon’s father, Joel Southwell Sr., and other family members will be assisting in the work making the effort a family affair.
Joel and a few close friends of Jon’s from growing up are looking to put together the work crew and are happy to hear from volunteers.
Bob Hanks of Pulaski has agreed to assist and helped out with some work on March 9.
We anticipate completion by early June if all goes well.
These rooms have become “catch all” in recent years due to our growing need for outdoor storage.
Rakes, shovels and countless tools have filled half the room.
To remedy this Trustee Rombach is heading up an effort to see to the construction of a storage shed out back.
Our current metal shed is falling in and needs replacement.
In the meantime, we are going through our tools and sorting out what we need to have on site.
Colby Woolson, a senior at Pulaski schools, worked all day on March 9 entering data on Parish town World War II veterans.
Now that Colby has the individual word documents set up we will be teaming up with Trustee Venita Ackley to flesh out the bios.
Bill Larabee of Pulaski is assisting up with his late father’s bio and we’ll give that as a sample in the next newsletter.
On March 20 we will conduct our annual research day at Springbrook Apartments in Pulaski.
We have done this each year since the early 1990s usually in mid-winter.
This year we are “late” due to the crazy weather.
Our first regular lunch meeting of the year will be March 29 at noon.
Following lunch a short business meeting will occur.
The planning for the annual County Fair exhibit is going well, Schroeder and Shawn Doyle are meeting on plans with fair officials and seem to be “ahead of schedule” this year in planning.
The Oswego County Fair runs July 2-6 in Sandy Creek.
