HANNIBAL, NY – The Hannibal Board of Education, at its Wednesday (March 14) meeting, selected Donna J. Fountain as the district’s new superintendent of schools.
The board action culminates a yearlong search process that attracted 26 candidates for the position.
Drs. William Silky and Lucy Martin, of Castallo & Silky in Syracuse, served as consultants to the board during the search process.
Ms. Fountain is presently assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and special programs in the Cazenovia Central Schools district.
She has been with the Cazenovia School District in this role since July 2010.
Prior to this, Ms. Fountain spent five years in the North Syracuse Schools as elementary principal at Smith Road School.
Ms. Fountain has also been a house principal at Cicero-North Syracuse High School and a school counselor in three Central New York school districts.
Ms. Fountain received her Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Sciences from SUNY IT, a Master’s degree in School Counseling and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in School Administration from Syracuse University.
She is a 2009 graduate of the statewide Superintendent Development Program.
Board President, Michael LaFurney said, “The board was very impressed with Donna’s passion and enthusiasm for Hannibal, and rose to the top of a strong list of candidates for the superintendent’s position. We are delighted to have her as our next superintendent.”
Ms. Fountain will officially take over the district helm on July 1.
