Harborfest Children’s Park offers Parent/Child Yoga For The First Time

OSWEGO – The Harborfest Children’s Committee and Oswego’s North Coast Yoga studio are partnering together to provide a free Parent/Child Yoga class on July 25 at 11 a.m. at the Novelis Family Park (West Park).

This is the first time a free yoga class will be a part of the Harborfest festival.

The class will last for 30 minutes and will take place on the west end of the park, near West Fifth and Seneca streets.

Children who are at least toddler age are welcome to attend with a parent or adult and no previous yoga experience is needed.

Becky Lloyd, a yoga instructor at North Coast Yoga, will be teaching the class at Harborfest.

She has recently been trained in Childlight Yoga, and is looking forward to leading the event.

“I will keep the class simple,” Lloyd said. “So anyone would be able to do it.”

To plan the event, she has been working closely with AmeriCorps member Lindsay Johnson, who is serving with Harborfest this summer to continue to bring fitness and nutrition-focused activities to the Family Park.

“I am so excited that North Coast Yoga is helping us provide this great event for the first time ever at Harborfest,” Johnson said. “Improving physical fitness and mental health are two of the key elements needed to fight the obesity epidemic and yoga is one of many ways that adults and children can keep moving toward the goal of a healthy lifestyle.”

People interested in attending the yoga class should dress in comfortable clothes that are easy to move in and bring water to drink.

The Novelis Family Park will be open on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with two performances of the “Wonderland” musical occurring at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Also, the T-shirt workshop will be available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Novelis Family Park.
