Oswego, NY – Danielle Hayden of the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce recently completed the SUNY Oswego Professional Certificate Program in Event Planning. Offered at the SUNY Oswego Metro Center in Syracuse, the four-week program focused on a number of pertinent topics and issues related to event planning including effectively managing event logistics such as volunteers, facilities, transportation, food and beverage, ticketing, and admissions. In addition, participants also learned to develop critical planning techniques and establish bases for negotiating contracts and interacting with sponsors.
“It was a very enlightening and worthwhile course,†said Hayden. “I gained some valuable information that I will be able to use immediately as I plan upcoming chamber events.†One of the highlights of the course for Hayden was the emphasis on developing strong organizational skills. “With the number of events that the Chamber hosts and is involved with, proper organization is essential to the success of the event.â€Â
As events coordinator for the chamber Hayden not only sits on the committee for each event, she also establishes the committee, plans and co-facilitates the meetings with the chairperson, and overseas every aspect of the event. She is instrumental in coordinating and planning popular community events such as the Oswego Independence Day Celebration, Tunes in June, the CNY Great Pumpkin Festival, and Fulton’s Jazz Fest, as well as chamber events including the small business week celebration, the annual meeting, the golf tournament, holiday social, Oswego’s Project Bloom, and networking events such as the Business After Hours and Perc Clubs.
“I really enjoy my job and get great satisfaction from that fact that I am helping to provide the community and our membership with exciting events that truly enhance our quality of life. I put a lot of hard work and dedication into making each event the best it can be. To be at an event and see people enjoying what I helped put together is very rewarding. This program has provided me with a wealth of knowledge and ideas that will allow me to continue to make our events a little bit better each year,†added Hayden.
A native of Fulton, Hayden earned her associate’s degree in travel and tourism from Bryant and Stratton College and worked as a Leisure Travel Agent at Canalview Travel in Fulton from 1995 to 2003. In 2003 she joined the chamber as an administrative assistant and was named events coordinator in 2006. A member of YP Voice of Oswego County, Hayden is also a member of the Oswego County Tourism Advisory Council, and a member of the 2010 Leadership Oswego County Class. She was also recognized as one of Oswego County’s rising stars when she was selected as one of the Oswego County Business Magazine’s 2008/ 2009 Forty Under 40 award recipients.
