Head Start Preschool will hold Open Houses:

At their Cleveland Center on Wednesday, April 7th, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. The center is located in the lower level of St. Mary’s Church, 48-B State Route 49 in Cleveland.

At their Fulton Head Start/UPK and Pinewoods Centers on Tuesday, April 6th, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. The Fulton Head Start/UPK Center is located in the lower level of All Saint’s Church, 153 South 1st Street, Fulton. The Pinewoods Center is located at 2798 County Route 57, Fulton.

At their Oswego Center on Tuesday, April 6th, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. The center is located in Building 31 at Fort Ontario, 45 Schuyler Street, Oswego.

At their Phoenix Center on Wednesday, April 7th, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. The center is located at Discovery Day Care in Industrial Park, 80 County Route 59, Phoenix.

At their Pulaski Center on Wednesday, April 7th, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. The center is located at Lura Sharp Elementary School, 2 Hinman Rd, Pulaski.

Families and all members of the community are invited to attend to learn more about Head Start and what this program has to offer children and families.

Head Start’s primary goal is promoting kindergarten readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through hands-on experiences. Classes are taught by teachers with degrees and experience in early childhood education. Centers are also staffed by family advocates, teaching assistants, classroom aides, cooks, and nurses. The program includes meals and snacks, encourages parent involvement, and provides family support.

Applications will be taken at Open House for September 2010. Families who would like to be considered for initial class placement are encouraged to apply early. Waiting lists are maintained for openings that may occur throughout the school year. Families who are unable to attend this event may call 342-0629 or 598-4711 to learn more or schedule an application.

Head Start Preschool is provided at no cost and is available to families with incomes at or below federally set guidelines. Head Start is the longest running national school-readiness program in the United States. Since 1999, more than 4,400 children have been students of Head Start Preschool in Oswego County.

Head Start is operated by Oswego County Opportunities, Inc. OCO is a non-profit agency that has been supporting communities throughout Oswego County since 1966. OCO is a United Way of Greater Oswego County member agency.
