‘Healthy Aging – Know Your Medications Lunch and Learn’ Program Set

FULTON – Michaud Residential Health Services in Fulton will sponsor a “Lunch and Learn” program with Dr. Renante Ignacio, MD and Pharmacist Jamie Branshaw, RPh, entitled; “Healthy Aging/Know Your Medications” on  October 5.

The program will be held at the “Under The Moon” Banquet Facility/”Blue Moon Grill” located at 122 Cayuga St. beginning at 11 a.m.

The event is free of charge and lunch is provided for those reserving a seat in advance.

Learn what are some of the normal physical and psychological changes we might all expect to experience as we age, and what is not.

Dr. Ignacio will talk about strategies and lifestyle choices we all can practice to achieve and maintain health as we grow older, and some of the resources in our own community to help us address any adverse effects of aging in a loved one or ourselves.

The importance of Advance Directives and preferences in care will also be reviewed. A question and answer session will be a part of the program.

Branshaw, who has 20 years of experience serving the community, will offer an overview of the basics consumers should be aware of regarding both prescribed and over-the-counter medications.

Topics to be discussed include: drug interaction; definition and information about over-the counter, supplements and generics; the importance of taking medications as directed; the role of the pharmacist; and where to find valid information.

About Dr. Ignacio

Dr. Ignacio, MD is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He currently serves as Medical Director at Michaud Residential Health Service, St. Luke Health Services and St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence. He is the president and CEO of Geriatric & Palliative Specialist, PC; He remains active at national, state and local professional health care organizations to promote and foster optimal geriatric care.

About Branshaw

Branahaw is the supervising pharmacist at Wayne Drug in Oswego. Jamie received his bachelor of science in Pharmacy from Albany College of Pharmacy (1996). Jamie is involved in the implementation and enhancement of clinical activities including medication adherence programs, immunizations, medication therapy management services, and disease state management programs. Jamie is currently a preceptor for student pharmacists completing advanced pharmacy practice rotations with multiple schools of pharmacy. Jamie is an active member of the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York and an alumni member of Phi Delta Chi. He currently serves as managing member for Harbor Pharmacy.

Michaud Residential Health Services is a not-for-profit, non-denominational organization providing healthcare services to the greater Oswego County community.
