Diabetics can enjoy typically forbidden foods such as pizza and pasta using recipes developed by Oswego Health Pharmacist Daniela Tierson.
Tierson will share her recipes at Oswego Health’s free diabetes support group held from noon until 1 p.m. August 21 in the Oswego Health Services Center’s lower level conference room.
The HSC is located adjacent to Oswego Hospital.
“I have researched some healthy recipe substitutions so that diabetics can still enjoy foods that they typically aren’t able to eat,” Tierson said. “I have a pizza recipe that uses cauliflower instead of dough and a recipe that uses thin strips of zucchini rather than pasta. While these recipes may taste different, they are quite good.”
Tierson took an interest in healthy cooking and eating after graduating from the Albany College of Pharmacy in 2011.
“I love to cook and bake so I have been trying new recipes, different techniques and new ingredients for meals with help from recipe and blog websites,” she said. “It just all came together; I love cooking, baking, exercising, being active and eating.”
Along with the Oswego diabetes support group, Oswego Health offers a similar group in Fulton, which meets the first Thursday of the month from 10 to 11 a.m.at Springside at Seneca Hill.
The public is invited to attend either support groups, which are free.
