Hearings Set On Oswego Proposed Local Laws

OSWEGO – The Common Council set public hearings Monday night for a pair of proposed local laws.

Mayor Billy Barlow proposed Local Law No. 1 of 2018. It would aggressively increase the enforcement, fines and penalties for property maintenance issues such as tall grass, un-shoveled sidewalks, exposed garbage and other violations.

The public will have its chance to weigh in on the proposal at 7:05 p.m. March 12.

A public hearing on proposed Local Law No. 2 of 2018 was set for 7:10 p.m. on March 12.

The local law would amend Chapter 249, Vacant and Occupied Property Maintenance.

Both hearings will be held in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 13 W. Oneida St.

The council also approved the use of public space for:

• Lisa Izyk, owner of property located at 180 E. Cayuga St. for an existing encroachment

• Julie Chetney, on behalf of the County Autism Task Force, in order to host the “Out Run Autism” 5K event on April 7

• Oswego Lions Club, in order to host its annual River’s Edge Craft Show on June 10

• And, use of the Eastside Fire Station for a blood drive to be held March 26
