Utilizing the Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit programs to assist with the costs of rehabilitation projects like the one above will be the topic of two workshops on Thursday, November 2 at the Oswego Public Library.

Murray Gould, president of Port City Preservation, will provide details on federal and NYS Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit programs. Gould, a national expert on historic tax credits, will educate owners of eligible residential and commercial properties how to utilize the program to help offset the costs of historic rehabilitation work.

“We’re delighted to host this amazing resource,” said Austin Wheelock, president of the Heritage Foundation of Oswego County. “For property owners and others interested in preservation, these workshops will be invaluable resources to making your dream historic rehabilitation projects a reality.”

Since the historic rehabilitation tax credit program differs for residential and commercial properties, there will be two separate workshops at the Oswego Public Library on November 2.

A commercial properties workshop, which includes apartments, will be held at 3:30 p.m. and a residential workshop for homeowners will follow at 6:30 p.m.

Each meeting will take approximately an hour with time for questions.

The workshops will detail the process for determining property eligibility, obtaining project approval from the appropriate state agencies, and project implementation.

Immediately following the 6:30 p.m. workshop, the Heritage Foundation of Oswego County will hold its annual meeting and awards ceremony.

Workshop participants are encouraged to attend.

The free Heritage Foundation workshops are part of an ongoing series of informational programs on preservation topics.
