Hoffman Signs Anti-Tax Pledge; Challenges Scozzafava and Owens to do the same

Doug Hoffman, the conservative Republican candidate for Congress (NY-23) today called on his opponents in the race to join him in signing the Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) Tax Protection Pledge. The pledge, a mere 40 words, affirms that those who sign it will work to oppose higher taxes on the American public.

Hoffman, a CPA with five offices across the 23rd Congressional District and a self-made small businessman, is a common sense conservative who understands that tax and spend mentality in Albany and Washington is bankrupting both the American taxpayer and the nation.

Doug Hoffman said: “Professional politicians have dual addictions; it’s called taxing and spending and it is bankrupting our state and our nation. On August 11th I signed the Americans for Tax Reform Taxpayer Protection Pledge and I call on Assemblywoman Scozzafava and Bill Owens to do the same. As an accountant and small businessman I have seen first-hand what high taxes do; they destroy the hopes and dreams of average Americans. High taxes have forced hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers to leave our state in search of a better life. High taxes have forced businesses to close and farmers to walk away from farms that have been in their families for generations. High taxes have stifled the free enterprise system and wreaked havoc on those who attempt to live the American Dream. High taxes kill jobs and economic development right here in the 23rd Congressional District.

I’m a life long Republican and the only conservative in this race. I believe in the ATR pledge. It’s only 40 words long, but it speaks volumes about where a candidate stands on the issues in this race for Congress. I hope Dede Scozzafava and Bill Owens take the few short minutes it will take to download, read, and sign this pledge. If they don’t, I hope they will take the time to explain to the voters why they intend to vote with Nancy Pelosi and her comrades in Washington as they tax this nation to death.”

Americans for Tax Reform is a national grass-roots organization that was founded in 1985. In the 111th Congress, 172 members of the House and 34 Senators have signed the ATR pledge.
