OSWEGO, NY – Hollis M. Mellen, 85, a resident of Oswego, passed away Thursday December 13, 2012, at Morning Star Nursing Home.
Born in Mexico, NY, he was the son of the late Michael and Blanche (Anson) Mellen.
Hollis was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1944-1946.
He worked as a machine operator at the Carrier Corporation for 39 years, retiring in 1988. He previously worked for the Oswego Candy Company.
He was a charter member of the Oswego Sportsmen 35 Club Incorporated.
He enjoyed hunting and camping in the north.
He was a member of the American Legion 268, VFW 5885 and the Hibernians in Oswego.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn (Smith); three daughters, Deborah (David) Shannon of Town of Oswego, Mary Elizabeth (James) Gardner of Syracuse and Diane (Jon Secrest) Henry of Town of Oswego; one brother, Harlow Mellen of Baldwinsville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Steven; and nine brothers and sisters.
Services and burial will be held in the spring at the Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego, with a service to follow.
