Howard E. Lyons, 82, of Oswego, died Sunday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, NY.
He was born in Minetto, NY to the late Kenneth John and Lena “Laws” Lyons. In 1948, he married Gloria Simons with whom he celebrated 62 years of Marriage.
Howard was a member of the US Army serving in Alaska during the Korean Conflict.
During the late 1950’s he owned and operated a service station on Syracuse Avenue in Oswego.
Howard retired from Niagara Mohawk in 1987 as Superintendent of Maintenance for System Transportation.
Howard and Gloria’s leisure time was spent devoted to their family, following and participating in the many activities and passions of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Howard also enjoyed hunting, racing, Yankees baseball and spending time with other family and friends.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Mason, Don, Milton, Carl and Wesley Lyons; and sisters, Lois Andrianos and Edna Lyons.
Surviving are his wife Gloria, sons Kevin (Debbie) of Colorado Springs and Karlton “Birdie” (Sally VanBuren) of Oswego; grandchildren, Sara Lyons of Oswego; Shelby Lyons and husband Gordon Harrison of Windsor, Co and Bradley (Autumn) Lyons of Martville, NY; great granddaughter, Sylvie Harrison; brother Norman “Tom” (Irene) Lyons of Minetto, NY; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 11a.m. Wednesday at Nelson Funeral Home. Calling hours will be held 4-8pm. Tuesday at the funeral home, 11 W. Albany St. Oswego.
Spring burial will be in Minetto Cemetery.
