Appropriately enough, it was raining cats and dogs at the start of the Oswego County Humane Society’s Tenth Annual Golf Tournament on July 16th at Greenview Country Club in West Monroe. Golfers enjoyed 18 holes of golf, closest to the pin and putting contests, lunch on the course, a buffet dinner, and an interesting and entertaining auction of donated items, while the Humane Society raised more than $8000 toward the operating costs of providing animal welfare services.
Not for lack of trying, but no one won the $10,000 hole in one prize, sponsored by Community Chiropractic, P.C., one of the major sponsors of the event. Taking first place among the men’s teams was Lew’s Crew led by Dr. Lew Watson, with a score of 61; the Catastrophes won the women’s prize with a score of 70; and the Eastern Shore Associates team led the mixed teams with a score of 68. All three first place teams received cash prizes. Ken Hodgson and Sarah Fitzpatrick won the closest to the pin awards. Bill Kerfien won the putting contest.
Lunch on the course was sponsored by Alliance Bank, a major sponsor of the tournament. Other major sponsors included the Oswego Elks Lodge No 271 and the Shanley Law Offices.
Other donors and sponsors of the event included Diane Broadwell, Burke’s Home Center, Century 21-Galloway Realty, Colosse Cheese and Colossal Ice Cream Shop, Eagle Beverage Co., Eastern Shore Associates, Furlong Properties & Premier Living, Gioa’s Signs, the Greenhouse Effect, Johanna Henry, J.
