In spite of dismal weather, forty runners, walkers and strollers and almost as many dogs, in every variety from massive Dogue De Bordeaux to tiny Havanese, and many “Mutts,” joined the fourth annual Strut Your Mutt 5K/1M Walk and Run on Sunday, September 28th to help raise funds for the Oswego County Humane Society.

Among the runners, Jeremy Ketchum won the First Place Men’s medal with a time of 23:13, and his dog Dublin Goodhound, won the First Place Dog’s medal. Sarah Castaldo won the First Place Women’s medal with a time of 26:23. Brandi Stupke won the First Place Youth medal with a time of 30:45.

The Oswego Speedway was the major sponsor of the event. Dog watering stations were sponsored by K-9 Grooming & Pet Motel and the Woodshed Tavern. Route sponsors included, R. J. Caruso Tax & Accounting, Emerald Crest Golf Club, Modular Homes by Furdis, the Shanley Law Offices, and Step One Creative. Lupien’s Engraving donated the race medals.

“Even with all the rain, we raised enough to subsidize the spay/neuter surgery of 100 cats from low income families in Oswego County,” said Kristin Shanley, president of the Humane Society, “We suspect that the dogs think the whole thing is hilarious. But seriously, we are grateful for all the support from donors, sponsors and participants, and we love to see all these dogs having so much fun together.”
